Utrecht 900 years
In 2022, the city of Utrecht celebrated its 900th birthday. This milestone was celebrated throughout the year with various events including concerts, tours, gatherings and much more. During our studies at the art academy in Utrecht, we fell in love with the city.
Because Utrecht turned 900 years old, we decided to create a unique totebag, made of organic materials and with a unique illustration. The final illustration shows a character riding a bicycle, in reference to Utrecht's reputation as the best cycling city in Europe. The character is holding a flag with the world-famous illustration of Miffy, or Miffy, created by Dick Bruna from Utrecht. The city is dotted with various references to Miffy, from statues to posters and murals and a Miffy Museum, which is definitely worth a visit.
Finally, the illustration also includes the iconic Domtoren, which can be seen from almost anywhere in the city at 112 meters in height.
Although this was a personal project, the municipality of Utrecht had created its own branding and color scheme for the 900-year celebrations of Utrechtt. That's why we decided to stick to this design and color scheme.
As with each project we started sketching the illustration. After finding the right design and composition, we moved on to finalizing the illustration. After completing the illustration, we experimented with different color combinations to find the best version.
When we found the right color combination, we printed it on the totebags. We produced a limited number of Utrecht 900 years totebags, which were available at various gift and souvenir shops in Utrecht. If you are interested in having one of these totebags, you can contact us by email.
